Soar on the winds of change

2010 begins on a positive note as optimistic Jupiter enters its watery home sign of Pisces on January 17 for a 12-month stay. This provides a strong dose of imagination that can help us see beyond our current limits and recognize the spiritual resources available to everyone. Compassion and faith can dissolve some of our differences, allowing a greater sense of community to emerge.

The aspirations that lift us encounter the gravity of the material world when hard-nosed Saturn opposes Jupiter on May 23 and August 16. Fantasies can be crushed under the weight of necessity, yet commitment and discipline can turn worthwhile dreams into reality. Still, there is an irrepressible genius of originality with Jupiter's conjunction to inventive Uranus on June 8 that jumps minds to higher levels of consciousness and blasts us into the future.

The old vs. the new
Still, progress can be slowed through late July by the ongoing tension that began in the fall of 2008 when structural Saturn opposed revolutionary Uranus and the walls of financial security started to fall. The individual and collective challenge to let go of outmoded rules and replace them with more modern ones will keep the debate between the old and the new on the front burner for at least half the year. Recognizing where boundaries need to be broken and then doing it intelligently should help to overcome fear and frustration. An enormous amount of creativity becomes available when we recognize that we have untapped resources of imagination and allow ourselves the freedom to use them.

Differences of opinion
Contacts with powerful Pluto also suggest some deep changes to social structures, and we have major choices to make as to where we invest our resources. Hopeful Jupiter's tense 90-degree squares to Pluto on July 24 and August 3 can dramatize differences of opinion and political philosophies. It's easy to go to extremes, believing that one way is the sure road to success and the other to failure. Stern Saturn's square with Pluto on August 21 will reveal the consequences of these differences. Ideally, common interests will permit compromise, but it will take common sense and a desire for harmony to make this possible for individuals and institutions.
